Project Introduction
Location: Vietnam
Project Name: ORing Supports Digital Transformation of Vietnamese Power Plants with a Highly Reliable Power Communication Network
Products Deployed: RGS-P9000-HV
As global energy infrastructure continues to evolve toward greater intelligence and automation, a stable and secure industrial communication network has become a critical foundation for power system operations. Amid the global trend of energy transition, power plants across Vietnam are accelerating the digitalization of their power grids. However, power plants place extremely high demands on network real-time performance, compliance with international standards, and cybersecurity protection. Robust redundancy mechanisms are essential to ensure uninterrupted operations. To address these challenges, the customer deployed several hundred units of ORing’s industrial Ethernet switches, successfully building a highly reliable communication network that significantly enhances operational efficiency and overall system resilience.
Project Requirement
- Stable and reliable power communication network
- Compliance with power industry standards
- Advanced cybersecurity protection mechanisms
- Support for fast redundancy and real-time communication
Solution
In this project, ORing deployed the RGS-P9000-HV modular managed industrial Ethernet switch to establish a highly reliable communication infrastructure for the power plant. Featuring a four-slot modular design, the RGS-P9000-HV allows flexible configuration to accommodate different grid architectures, providing greater scalability for both initial deployment and future expansion.
In terms of reliability, the RGS-P9000-HV supports multiple Ethernet redundancy mechanisms, including O-Ring and MSTP. ORing’s proprietary O-Ring technology enables recovery times of less than 30 milliseconds in networks with up to 250 nodes. Even in the event of network anomalies or temporary failures, communication can be rapidly restored, ensuring uninterrupted operation of critical systems. IEDs (such as relays and BCUs) can also achieve dual-network redundancy through the PRP protocol, with data aggregated centrally by the P9000 switch, further enhancing the reliability of the overall communication architecture.
The switch is fully compliant with TÜV IEC 61850-3 and TÜV IEEE 1613 and IEEE 1613-1 standards for power applications, and is certified to IEC 62443-4-2 for industrial cybersecurity, effectively strengthening network security for substation automation systems. Additionally, the switch supports a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for harsh power plant environments. By integrating ORing’s Open-Vision network management platform, operators can achieve centralized management, significantly improving network maintenance efficiency.
To meet the requirements of power automation applications, the RGS-P9000-HV features a built-in MMS Server and IEC 61850 QoS mechanisms, and supports industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP, along with IEEE 1588v2 high-precision time synchronization. Through this deployment, the customer successfully established a highly reliable and secure power communication network, improving overall system stability and operational efficiency.
